The Day of Action is rolling around super-quick! Action is bubbling away in the planning stages across Aotearoa - it's going to be a day to remember. Remember to keep sharing what you are up to, get those politicians and media along to the event and give the national 350 crew a bell if you need any support with anything - aotearoa@350.org.nz.

Also, if you haven't already - make sure you register your actions here. We're gonna have all the NZ registered actions up on our website by the weekend so check them out and if yours isn't there or needs updating, contact Marie at marie@350.org.nz

350 is massive in NZ!

350 is massive in NZ!

It's popping up all over the show and with over 60 events registered around NZ, we are set to kick off October 24th in style. Quite a few groups have got so excited that they couldn't hold on until Oct 24th and have already done some stunning 350 actions!

For example, check out the report from Te Henga / Bethells Beach, Auckland - just last weekend. Or the awesome action at Treble Cone Skifield, in Wanaka. The Wellington team is doing the capital city proud, with epic chalking missions, a packed out launch party, and a hugely successful $3.50 lunch for 80 people at NZ's top restaurant, Logan Brown (registrations still open)!

Things have been rocking in Nelson, with Nayland College students winning the local competition (organised by the Nelson Environment Centre) for the best '350 action idea', which was awarded to them by the local Mayor, and they were interviewed on Sky TV!

Next week we will send out the summary of actions for October 24th with links so that you can join an action near you! In the mean time, be sure to check out the regions tab on 350.org.nz - as there are many events planned in the next few weeks (see for example in Hamilton).

350 in the Pacific

350 in the Pacific

We've been busy collaborating with groups across the Pacific who are planning some mighty exciting actions for October 24th. Here are some snapshots...

In Papua New Guinea, The Centre for Law and Environmental Rights is hosting ‘Peg a metre, clean a metre’ on Ela beach. Ruth Pune, organiser of the event says, “We are bringing a message to world leaders that we want them to reduce the current level of carbon in the atmosphere from 390ppm to the target of 350. We are serious about this number.” Business sponsors are being charged 350 kina (approx US $130) for participation in the day.

In Tuvalu, the 350 Climate Action Festival includes the re-introduction of solar energy and the introduction of wind energy in Funafuti on October 24th.

The sound of bells will resonate across Fiji’s islands on October 24th, as the Pacific Conference of Churches holds a ‘Tolling and Gonging’ session.

A clean-up is also planned in Niue, in anticipation of a national tree planting day with Members of Parliament. On October 15th, local plans are for an original “Grab that Jandal”* event. This will see the clean-up of Niue’s Togo Chasm, currently filled with broken tourist footwear that has been thrown into the Chasm like a ‘jandal graveyard’, according to organiser Ira Merrifield. She says that “Togo is being lost if visitors need only go to the edge of the precipice and throw their jandals in. We plan to grab whatever else does not belong in Togo Chasm and bring it back to a pristine state.” This event will start at 7.30am on Thursday 15th October.
