350 in the Media

350 Aotearoa have just received some funding from 350 international for someone to do some media work. To make sure we use this the best way possible, some of the national team will be getting in contact with regions about what they are up to and what support they might like for working with the media. So keep an ear out, and in the meantime give the national media team a shout on aotearoa@350.org.nz if you would like support keeping 350 in local and national media.

350 Christchurch was in the Press for making a big 350 sign out of people in Cathedral Square

350’s response to the Government’s emissions target announcement was mentioned in the education page of newspapers all over the country.

Kashi Leuchs was on Channel 9TV launching 350 Riders

A Day at the Beach was in the Press

350 - The movement is growing...

Kia ora 350 Aotearoa!

An enormously huge round of applause for the huge amount of work going on around the country to develop 350 and to get ready for the Day of Action. The 350 road trip was a total success, and regions and the road trip crew had a great time getting together and sharing ideas and inspiration.

350 has been in the media heaps recently, so our profile is growing. To help us all know exactly what is going on where on October 24th, get on to the 350 international site when you have a moment and register your action if you haven't already.

Also, if you haven't already, it would be great to invite politicians (MPs and people from local and regional councils) to your actions.

As always, it's a pleasure working with you.

The next step for 350

The next step for 350

350 Aoteaora is starting to think about what we do and where we go after October 24. Because we are a grass-roots movement, it's really important for everyone in Aotearoa has the chance to contribute to this discussion, and to deciding how we go about this discussion. So what should we do? How do we do it? Send your ideas into aotearoa@350.org.nz  or join the conversation on the 350 Aotearoa community website.

New 350 communities website

350 Aotearoa now has a communities website. Join up (and encourage all the 350ers you know to join up) to keep up-to-date with what is happening with 350 around Aotearoa.

350 on mountain bikes in Rotorua

The best mountain bikers and trials riders are gathering in Rotorua for round 5 of the 2009 UCI World Cup series...

The plan is to gather as many 350 Riders as possible together at major events, starting at the Trials in Rotorua, where there will be a non-competition 350 trials zone.
10,000 people are expected to be at this event, and it will be a great opportunity for 350 Aotearoa!! If you're keen to have a wicked weekend in Rotorua doing some 350 outreach, let us know.

The event runs from Friday 11th-Sunday 13th Sept.
Even if you come for some of it, it'll be great!! Accomodation can be sorted for those interested (but get in quick).

UN calls for signatures for action on climate change

The United Nations is calling for millions of online signatures for a climate petition and is launching the first-ever Global Climate Week as part of its Seal the Deal! campaign, 100 days ahead of the crucial UN climate change summit in Copenhagen (COP 15) in December.
Communities, businesses and individuals are encouraged to add their voices to the Seal the Deal! campaign during Global Climate Week by signing the Climate Petition at www.sealthedeal2009.org

Avaaz September 21st Global Wake-Up Call

On September 21, Avaaz is helping people to get together in public places all round the world for "wake-up call" flashmob events pressing our leaders to take action on climate.

Use the online form to register an event in your town, city, village, neighbourhood or community -- just choose a local public place you can get to easily on September 21. The events will be self-organising and follow a simple formula, lasting only about five minutes: it'll be simple for everyone. Avaaz and partners will help turn out a group of fellow-citizens to participate in each event, and will send you all the information you need.

Independent Age of Stupid Screenings

Anyone in NZ will be able to arrange an independent screening of the climate change movie Age of Stupid in their home, school, church, business, scout hut or anywhere else they like from September 22.

To do this, buy a license from the website, then invite all your friends, make them some popcorn, charge for tickets and keep the profits for your 350 campaign! Booking open now.

Gisborne

350 Gisborne has recently been activated and is bursting at the seams with excitement and ideas for October 24th! There are some plans brewing about taking advantage of the fact that Gisborne will be the first to see the daylight on the day! So, there is a plan to climb Mt Hikurangi at sunrise and 350 Gisborne are also thinking about challenging Dunedin for the surfing crown by have 350 surfers carving it up on the beautiful East Coast beaches.

Hawke's Bay

350 Hawke's Bay has recently been activated with some initial plans brewing that may include 350 castles at Waimarama Beach and possibly a composting workshop with biodynamics master Peter Proctor. Watch this space!

Christchurch

About 100 people gathered in Cathedral Square on August 20 to launch 350 Christchurch and welcome the 350 Aotearoa travellers by making a big 350 shape.

Rhys, Rik and Torfrida spoke at the launches of Age of Stupid at Rialto and Hoyts and we leafleted audiences as they came out, lots of interest. Geoff Walker kept the leafleting going on later days.

Christchurch has heaps coming up including a talk by Melissa Clarke Reynolds, who trained with Al Gore.

Taranaki

Emily Dowding-Smith (a now-international 350 ambassador) has spent some time in Taranaki promoting 350 and 24 October schools as well as New Plymouth Library; Puke Ariki museum; Intercity bus terminal; Okato - Seed organic shop and transition town ladies & Lahar cafe. There is heaps of enthusiasm here which would be great to keep going. So if anyone in Taranaki gets some spare time to spend talking to schools, the schools Emily hasn't been able to get to are: Hawera High; Inglewood High; Spotswood College; and Waitara High.
